ABSTRACT

The internet is a technology that has become an enormous part of people’s daily lives. Over the last decades, internet connectivity has improved tremendously and is available everywhere such as homes, offices, travels and schools The outcome of the current study will help to throw light on the extent and psychosocial correlation of Internet non-abuse and abuse. Identification of the risk factors for Internet abuse also plays a significant role in early intervention and prevention in adolescents who are vulnerable to Internet abuse. This study can be used in general as a platform to design an intervention package and also as a prevention strategy in the near future, especially for the Indian context. Thus the module would help parents, school teachers and staff, Internet abuse health professionals, other health professionals and psychiatric social workers working with adolescents in schools and other settings, to further gain insight on the extent of Internet use, factors influencing it, and psychosocial issues of problematic Internet use in a larger perspective.
