ABSTRACT
Depression is a widespread mental health disorder that negatively impacts individuals' emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. While pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy remain the standard treatment modalities, complementary therapies such as Reiki are gaining attention for their holistic benefits. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Reiki therapy in reducing depression among clients admitted to the Institute of Mental Health, Gwalior. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was adopted with 60 participants selected through convenience sampling. Reiki was administered for 30 minutes daily over seven consecutive days, and depression levels were measured using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Results indicated a significant reduction in depression scores from a pre-test mean of 56.95% to a post-test mean of 29.9%, showing a 27.1% improvement. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test confirmed the intervention's effectiveness (p < 0.001). The study concludes that Reiki therapy is a safe, non-invasive, and cost-effective complementary intervention for reducing depression and can be integrated into routine nursing care for mental health clients.
