ABSTRACT

Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) has emerged as a vital element in enhancing organizational efficiency, especially in highly competitive and labor-intensive industries such as steel manufacturing. This article explores the strategic HRM practices adopted by two key players in India’s steel industry: Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), a prominent private sector firm, and Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), a unit of the public sector undertaking Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The article aims to understand how these organizations align their HRM practices with business strategies, focusing on key dimensions such as talent acquisition, training and development, performance management, and employee relations. A comparative analysis highlights similarities and differences, drawing insights into the challenges and best practices of SHRM in public versus private sector settings. The study uses secondary data sources and qualitative observations to assess how SHRM impacts productivity, workforce satisfaction, and organizational sustainability in both companies.
