ABSTRACT

Sexual exploitation and abuse of minors remain a global problem, exacerbated by the advent of digital platforms and online communication. This systematic literature review was meant to identify the prevalence, risk factors, and societal responses to child sexual abuse, emphasizing the role of technology in promoting awareness of sexual exploitation. The review gathered four essential themes: Grooming Children for Exploitation, Engaging in Online Deception to Access Victims, Organizing Networks for Trafficking and Abuse, and Normalizing Abusive Behavior Through Social Influence. Furthermore, the study highlighted the limitations of existing legislative frameworks and preventative efforts. The researchers recommended secured legislative protections, improved digital safeguards, increased public awareness, and cross-sector coordination among governments, law enforcement, social workers, and technology corporations. In line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions, this study underlined the importance of a comprehensive, proactive approach to preventing child exploitation and creating a safer environment for children worldwide.
