ABSTRACT

A Caesarean section is done for safe delivery of the baby where normal delivery is not possible due to any maternal or fetal problem. The postnatal period is a unique time when a mother undergoes the transition into motherhood. Postnatal care knowledge has a significant role in reducing such complications. Educating the mother pre-operatively about postoperative care will help them practice self-care as early as possible after the delivery by improving their self-care practices and preventing complications. AIM: To determine the effectiveness of self-instructional module on knowledge of postnatal care among mothers undergoing caesarean section. Quantitative research approach and a pre- experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was used in the study and 60 subjects were selected through convenient sampling. Self -structured questionnaires were used. The RESULT: Showed that in the pre-test 13(21%) subjects had poor knowledge, 38(63.3%) subjects had average, whereas 9(15%) subjects had good knowledge regarding postnatal care. After administration of the self-instructional module, the post-test knowledge scores of the subjects were: 58 (96.7%) good and 02 (3.3%) had average knowledge. It reveals that three variables (source of information, gravida, and previous mode of delivery) had a significant association with knowledge. CONCLUSION: The findings of the study indicated that the self-instructional module is effective
